You Over Me: The Gritty Band Shaking Up the Scene

You Over Me - UK Band

Following You Over Me’s journey these last few years has been great fun. And while you are reading this, you are wondering, “What?! Who?” How to define, describe, contain? Full of energy, excitement, and a genuine passion for their role in the vibrant pop-punk scene, You Over Me (YOM) is a lively, free-spirited all-female group (Em, Amy, Eloize, and Anya) of diverse and talented self-made musicians.

Since coming together in 2019, and after a few lineup changes since then, this now four-member band has built a loyal following with their catchy melodies, memorable melodies, powerful riffs, and electrifying live performances. You Over Me always brings fresh sounds and creative ideas to stages across London (UK), blending modern alt-rock with pop-punk stimuli. Every performance is unique, feeding off the instant and spontaneous chemistry between them and the audience. Never see the same thing twice!

Recognize any familiar faces? Seen them on social media? On the BBC? Perhaps in London or around Europe? The answer to all those is yes. Whilst pursuing her solo career, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer Anya Jasmine (now known as Anja) joined YOM last year as a guitarist. Eloize is the band’s lead guitarist (and a professional DJ). Amy is YOM’s fantastic drummer (and the drummer for Tropic Gold, and a session musician for Kevin Davy White, among others). The crazy talented Em(ma) is lead singer.

Their latest song, “Y DOES IT GET 2 B U” (with Walwin’s mixing, mastering, and production assistance), dropped today. It is genuinely catchy, though the topic is painful. The song is about feeling betrayed and heartbroken by a partner’s duplicity, expressing the pain and confusion about why the partner gets to move on while the one betrayed is left dealing with the emotional fallout.

There is anger, resentment, self-reflection and, ultimately, the realization that the person giving voice to all those reactions is not at fault. In essence, the song captures the intense emotions of being cheated on and trying to make sense of the situation. In “Y DOES IT GET 2 B U”, all these emotions are thrown into a “musical echo chamber” that conveys the storytelling in no uncertain terms: powerful riffs, grooves, and vocal runs render each “step” through that painful journey. Add alt rock, pop, punk, grittiness, and you get a cheeky Banksy-like snapshot of what You Over Me is all about. Check them out.
